One aspect that saw massive change during the Covid pandemic was the unprecedented rise in house prices. Some areas of the UK saw considerable increases in house prices along with the increase in the Bank of England interest rates meant that buying your first home became more difficult than ever. It also makes it a difficult decision on whether to stay in your current home or move on to your next property.

If you have decided it is time to move up the property ladder to the next level then it’s very important that you do some improvements to maximise the value of your current home so you can achieve the best price for your home.

When it comes to making home improvements to your home it’s important to know what DIY projects will increase the value of your home and consequently what DIY projects could possibly decrease the value of your home.

Brandon Hire Station asked experts who reveal which DIY trends can impact the value of your home with their campaign #ToDIYorNotToDIY. You can learn more by clicking here.

Here are a few DIY projects that will increase the value of your home.

1. Garden

If your garden is clutter free with well maintained lawns and borders it can add value to your home, because not only does it look good, any potential buyers will know that there will be nothing for them to do once they move in and this requires little cost or skill to achieve.

To add some more value to your home adding a room within the garden that could be used for example as a gym or office this will definitely add value to your home.

2. Kitchen/Bathrooms

When it comes to achieving the best price for your property, the kitchen is a very important room and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Having quartz or granite worktops and neutral coloured units can definitely add value to your home.

This also applies to bathrooms. Making your bathroom sleek and easy to use can add lots of value to your home. Kitchens and bathrooms are one of the first things prospective buyers look at when viewing homes to basically make sure that when they move in they can be used straight away without any work or changes needed.

If you want to add big value to your home then making your home bigger via either a loft conversion or a house extension will increase the value of your home.

Of course there are some DIY projects you shouldn’t do for example wallpapering a bathroom or painting floorboards or tiling because this may not be to everybody’s taste and they would after viewing your home, go away thinking we need to change this, that or the other and that will cost money. It’s also important to make sure all the electrics and gas boiler are in tip top condition because neglecting these can devalue your home quite dramatically. So it’s very important to not neglect these very important factors before you decide to sell your property.

There are of course many ways to add value to your property to make it a much more appealing to potential buyers.

Have you sold your home recently? What DIY projects have you done to increase its value? I would love to hear in the comments below.
